A Little Farm History…

In 2004, Atlas Farm planted its first seeds on a small patch of land in Montague. Growing every year since, Atlas now cultivates 100 acres of certified-organic vegetables and berries in beautiful Deerfield, MA.

Atlas Farm sells produce to the farm store, delivers orders several times per week to local grocery stores, and sets up shop at various farmers markets year-round. While the summer and fall are the most productive times on the farm, winter greenhouse growing ensures our customers have fresh greens throughout the year. The farm relies on a dedicated team to keep things running throughout the year, plus a returning seasonal crew of H2A workers. In recent years, farmer Gideon and the Atlas team have focused on climate-adaptive growing practices and renewable energy.

In January 2022, farmer Gideon and store manager Kelly Hickey signed papers to transfer ownership of the store to Kelly. The store maintains a strong partnership with the farm, but both businesses have more bandwidth to focus on projects & growth. Store staff are eager for this new chapter in the farm’s story!

Funding for the store came from the Franklin County Community Development Corporation and the Mass Food Trust Program, which shares the common goal of increasing food access.
