Maple cream cheese frosting

Using the optional 1 cup powdered sugar in this recipe will make a sweeter, stiffer frosting


INGREDIENTS:

3 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

1 cup (8 oz.) cream cheese, at room temperature

4 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup powdered sugar, optional


INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine the butter and cream cheese with a hand mixer, or in the bowl of a stand mixer.  Beat until smooth and no clumps remain.  Add the maple syrup, vanilla, and salt, beat until smooth.  If adding the powdered sugar, incorporate it 1/4 cup at a time.  Use as is, or chill the frosting in the fridge to desired consistency.
